Metaphorically speaking a manmade diamond is worth less than a natural diamond and people care more about natural diamonds, but there is one thing a natural diamond can't do; take a concious act of a person to be created in the first place and even if it's manmade it's far more useful and manmade diamonds are used on everything from drills to wires.  They are far more useful cause without them a lot of people would be without jobs and in poverty.
