In other words the most likely outcome is complete legalization.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAlso japan has recognized domestic partnerships; it's not marriage, but it's a start.  Japan for the longest time was anti-glbt, but they're warming up to it and I think it will go a lot more smoothly than in the usa.\r\n\r\nThe next metaphorical battleground for gay rights is probably going to be asia and such, because while a lot of the countries are anti-glbt it's because of wildly different reasons than in the west.
