What we do have to worry about is a local star a couple light years from us going supernova though.  If a star close to us were to go supernova it would usher in a severe ice age.  Considering the stars that are close to us the worst case scenario is a ice age.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWhat we do have to worry about is that in certain parts of the galaxy there's large amounts of dust.  You know how the asteroid field is mainly just insanely large dust clusters?  Imagine how large the dust cluster for the milk way is?  If the earth were to come in contact with one of these dust clusters we would be done for and would *HAVE* to move to space.  Imagine a metric meter of dust collecting on the earth monthly on average. . . There probably is hundreds of thousands of advanced species in the galaxy, but chances are they are so far apart from each other that it would take thousands of years to get to each other.\r\n\r\nFrom out current understanding of physics faster than light travel is impossible or if someone actually does it then they would have be one of the most advanced species in the galaxy.\r\n\r\nWhat I mean by all this is that A)space is very fucking hostile B)the earth is lucky C)if there is alien life out there chances are they're so far away that it would take thousands of years to get to them D)only the most advanced of advanced species would be capable of faster than light travel.\r\n\r\nTl:dr; bacteria and such is probably common in the galaxy; sapience is probably rare cause of how long it takes to evolve and that most life gets wiped out before it can evolve into sapient species cause of how hostile space is.","author":"38b55cdf63616403d7560600"}]}
